“Jesus said, ‘I’ve said these things to you so that you will have peace in Me. In the WORLD you will have tribulation. But be encouraged! I have conquered the WORLD.” John 16:33
What a word of encouragement from Jesus Himself. Welcome again to Five Minute Friday where we set our clocks for five minutes and write. This week our word is WORLD. (what a tongue twister! say that three times 🙂 )
As I pondered on the word a bit, the scripture above came to mind. With that, I started to remember back twenty-five years ago when I was a brand-new Christian.
I don’t know if you’re like me, but when I gave my heart to the Lord, it seemed like a whirlwind of a romance and I thought everything was beautiful, everything was new and was “going to be all right!“
Yes, it was a whole new WORLD, but without realizing it, God became like a Santa Clause to me. It wasn’t long before my eyes were opened and I discovered the truth of that scripture– we will have tribulation.
Yep, everything was new and beautiful, but trials also accompanied me along the way. But looking back, I can trace the hand of God over and over again. Jesus was right. He told us above that we would have trials, but we must trust we are not alone in them.
So if you’re on our way out of a trial, praise Him. Or, if you are in the midst of one, I come to you with a word of HOPE. We are in the WORLD, and even though we are Christians mingled in the WORLD, remember what Jesus said, “He has overcome the WORLD.”
“Jesus said, ‘I’ve said these things to you so that you will have peace in me. In the WORLD you will have. But be encouraged! I have conquered the WORLD.” John 16:33
He is our hope. He is our joy. And oh beloved, if you allow Him, He will be your peace.
What are you facing today? Care to share? If you feel like the WORLD has overtaken you, instead of you conquering the WORLD, drop a word in the comments and I’d love to pray for you.
Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend. If you’d like to get more of these in your mailbox, drop me your e-mail in the box to the right.
Blessings to you,
Great post, though I kind of backed into Christianity from Buddhism (I’m Asian). I realized one day that I’d accepted Christ some time back, and that was just the way of things.
As for being overwhelmed by the world, well…for some weird reason I’m commenting in the form of sonnets these days, and this one’s written specifically for this comment, and for you.
In this place of broken dreams
and dashed and futile hopes,
where the night sees the screams,
cancer’s got me on the ropes.
I see the tumours clearly now,
and they define my world in pain,
so it’s an open question how
long I shall on earth remain.
But somehow heart is lifted up,
and there’s grace that never sours;
yes, there’s poison in the cup
but these are the happy hours.
I face each day like it’s the end,
and I face it with a Friend.

Beautifully written. I cling to Him daily. He will see us through any trials. We were on the same page with our scripture today. I am so happy to meet you on the Five Minute Friday linkup.
