Time to put your thinking-caps on.
Can you recall a Mother’s Day that is / was special to you. Maybe happy, sad, or all together indifferent.
Oh, I can think of ones way back when I was a kid and even though it was Mother’s Day and Mom still did all the cooking.
And then when I was a mom, I even did the same thing … but yet, is there one … just one that stands out.
Let me take a second and share a special one about my Mom with you. It was the first year after she passed. I don’t think I ever missed a year to give her a card,(Just something that was always important to me). So, this year just because she was gone, it didn’t seem to be any different.
Although I knew she was in Heaven, I still had the urgency to send her a card. So I did. Yep I bought one, signed it, and addressed it: Mary Berdych ~ Heaven. I sealed it like usual, even put a stamp on it and headed to the post office.
Little did I know I’d have a bit of a meltdown on the way. Yep the tears started to flow and… And.. oh no without realizing it, I went right through a STOP sign! Before I knew it the red lights were flashing behind me.
“So where are you going in such a hurry this time of the night that you rolled right through that stop sign?” the officer asked standing beside my car.
“So sorry officer,” I mumbled through my sniffles while handing him my card. “I was just on my way to mail this Mother’s Day card to my mom.
He read the address, lowered his eyes and paused. “Heaven?”
“Yes,” I explained. “It’s the first year my mom is not here and I never missed giving her a card. I couldn’t let it stop me just because she’s gone.”
“Well…” he responded with such grace. As I went on my way to hand deliver my card to the big blue box right down the street, I dropped it in and gave a smile up to MOM. “Thanks for talking to that officer 🎁 Yes. He could have given me a ticket. But instead I was let go with a warning ~ HIS MOTHER’S DAY GIFT TO ME!
