It’s Friday and let me welcome you to another Five Minute Friday where we write for Five Minutes on a one-word prompt. Although I do enjoy this exercise each week as a way of sharing my blog with you, I am amazed how the word of the week seems to align itself with the events of my day.
You are the one that’s in for the treat because that allows my blog to be freshly created just like a deliciously baked loaf of bread piping hot right from the oven. So, let’s set the timer and write on!
Have you ever gotten angry? Hurt by someone you thought to be a friend? Let down by someone close to you?
If we’re honest, we can all say amen to that. The real question is, what do you do about it?
Today was one of those days. Yep. My hurt and everything else that was wrapped up in those ugly feelings caused me to say, “I wish I could just FLY away! Get out … Just FLY away from all my hurts bottled up inside.”
By now you might have guessed it. The word for the week is FLY. So, let’s be honest. Have you ever felt like that? You thought if you could FLY away everything would be fine?
Well, sad to say, life happens. We wish for a bed of roses, but even though the roses are breathtakingly beautiful, the thorn is encased in the stem of its beauty.
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
Jesus tells us a secret in the book of John. Although we would love for things to be perfect, He lets us know that in this world we will have trouble. And, trouble may come in many forms. Jobs issues, financial stress, family, friends, sickness, and anything that will try to rob us of our joy.
But let us take hold of the beginning of Jesus’ words. Wow! We are blessed. We have His promise. We have His secret to life. He’s telling us that yes, things will come against us, but IN HIM, we may have peace.
That’s the key! So, what will you do with that trial? That tribulation? Will you allow it to make you a better person, or a bitter person?
Only when we turn it all over to Him and lay it at His feet, will the peace that He’s promised come about.
So I challenge you today. What is causing you to feel like you would like to FLY away? My suggestion to you is the same as it is for me — let it go. Allow the situation to FLY to the only one who can turn it around and remain in the center of it and then watch what He will do.
Thanks for stopping by … My Five Minutes are Up, but I’ll see you next week! Be blessed and stay close to the Lord, He is your rock and your salvation.
In Him,
Del

Loved this thoughtful, engaging essay, Del.
Flying away from pancreatic cancer would be kind of nice, I guess, but I really don’t think in those terms. For whatever reason, this is where I’m supposed to be, and my job is to use what skill I have with words to let people know that facing a really nasty kind of death isn’t all that bad. I’ve learned that joy is intentional, and that having a heart that’s at peace can give far more strength in the fight to live.
And it is a vicious fight; today, a fight to literally stay on my feet and do the things that keep my handholds on survival…like writing this comment
I’ve been told that what I’ve said in the past has inspired people, given hope, and made it easier for them to face trials in their own lives…if I flew off, away from the really dreadful symptoms and crushing fatigue, I wouldn’t be able to do that, eh?
So my wings stay folded, and bear-like I will fight the course. (And there’s a nod to The Bard!)

Visiting from FMF. Thanks for the reminder … feeling a little down and ready to fly away myself. To be honest, if I didn’t have my faith I don’t know where I would be. I don’t know how those who don’t have faith function. Keep the faith, my friend, until we fly into His arms.

Del, wonderful use of the prompt. It is so true … when we want to fly away, may we remember to fly to Him!
