Seeds of Strength Hope & Encouragement

Hello and welcome to another Five Minute Friday where we write on a one word prompt for FIVE minutes. Today our word is RETURN

It was set. Tuesday seemed to be the perfect day for my husband and I to RETURN to Michigan where we reside during the summer months.

Until — Sunday’s Newsflash!  — Subtropical storm Alberto threatens the south-mid east!

“How can this be?” I asked my husband. “He’s headed right up our path! Can’t he go another way?”

After much prayer and deliberation, we decided to move on with our plan. Although we knew we’d either be in the path of the storm, where the roads could be flooded, or we’d get lucky and chase him from behind, we decided to head out Tuesday morning.

My radar app wasn’t too promising, but to our surprise, we only hit two minor downpours along the way.

Then, big mistake! We stopped for the night and I studied Alberto’s route for the next day. We were heading right into his path. The “What if’s,” started again — Heavy

downpours? Will my husband be able to see? Hazardous driving

… and on and on I went until the phone rang.

“Mom quit looking at that app,” my daughter said. “I believe God is going to protect you. Just keep on going and you’ll be fine. If you need to stop, you’ll know it.” She was right. The app only caused us to fear what the meteorologists were predicting, not what was.

What is sparking your fears today? Just like my husband and I, God has a plan for you.  He has a purpose. He has a destination for you to reach. But somewhere along the way, fear might have tried to creep in just like with that weather app.  We try to figure everything out on our own — all the negative things that just might happen along the way.

For whatever reason, we allow the enemy of our soul to speak louder to us than the voice of hope who is trying to fill us with peace and safety for our journey ahead.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-7

As you can see, we did make it. But, think about it, if I would have listened to the voices of negativity in my head, we might still be stuck in a hotel back in Georgia 🙂 instead of RETURNING home!

So, my prayer for you today, is, that the Lord will send someone into your path to speak the words of truth to you, giving you a hope and a future.

” For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. Jeremiah 29:11

I pray that if you’ve veered off your path at all, that He will enable you to RETURN to Him and finish your journey as well!

See you again and may the Lord bless you mightily,

Del

  1. A bit late to the conversation, but ah, well.

I figure, let pancreatic cancer ear me because I’m going to beat it.

Yes! I lived this yesterday, leaving the theme park early only to be greeted with clear skies when we got to the car. And on a more serious level, with my grandfather who’s illness is a big unknown about just how long we’ll have him with us.
    Thank you for this word.

I’m glad you managed to complete your trip! I find that problem with weather apps too- they can definitely cause anxiety over what is going to happen. Just this weekend we had a severe weather warning for torrential rain and massive thunderstorms. In the end all we got was a few hours of moderate rain! I need this reminder to listen to the voice that speaks truth and peace. Visiting from FMF.

  4. Visiting from FMF. Welcome to summer in Pure Michigan! Hope you enjoy it. Ah, the fear monger. It touches us all, and you know what, most of the fears are greatly exaggerated … especially if we hang on to the faith of our Navigator and forget our apps. By the way, you have a smart daughter!

I love it… The fear monger! Yes, that is what it is. We can only defeat it when we know it by name and come against it and its false authority. And thanks, I’ll have to forward your comment to my daughter. blessings, Del PS what number are you on FMF… I’ll be glad to read your post.
